Yes, you'd need a lot of 'em, but you could easily distribute them about the "building", and only have to take 3 wires all around the whole "building", and only 2 wires back to the PC. You would need to add external transistors, as the switches won't take the required current directly. The DS9097 simply plugs into a PC COM: port, and drives the uLAN. It is controlled purely by characters sent to the COM: port, and handles all the timing in hardware - so there is no timing to be done by the PC (doing timing in windoze is tricky...). You can request one (in fact, two) from Maxim as a free sample...! |
