I do not know what your volume is to be, but have you compared the time you have spent on this with the added cost of a 4 layer board.

always remember

((design hours to achieve savings)*(the cost of an hour))/(anticipated production)

should exceed the savings in hardware.

Please note, I say "the cost of an hour", not "hourly salary". The value of an hour has many components in it:
hourly wage
hourly benefits
hourly cost of rent, heat, AC etc
and more
the the most often forgotten:
the cost of missed business because resources were otherwise engaged.
