#75368 - RE: How Good Is This Board Part 2. Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Putting ferrite beads isn't going to make your product any more reliable but it will go towards making your product EMC compliant!
What do you think CE standards are invented for??? Of course, to improve reliability!! And a device which does not comply with CE standards without ferrite bead, but does with added ferrite bead is of course more reliable! If you were worrying about CE compliance, then the ground plane is a good thing, from your design it seems you're not interested in CE compliance so why worry too much about the ground plane. So, we all are only using solid ground plane to make our boards comply with CE standard??? No other reasons??? I've seen commercial products that are CE compliant and are switching nastier loads on single sided pcbs! I only have to look in my washing machine! So we all, who are using double sided PCB or even multilayer boards waste our money?? Maybe a ground plane can be omitted in very certain cases, AFTER careful testing and finding out, that compliance can also be achieved without a ground plane. But to tell a beginner that he shall omit a solid ground plane at the early designing phase is the total wrong recommendation! There are tons of application notes in the web, which are demonstrating in detail, that even only one 74HCMOS gate output line, not routed properly over a solid ground plane can make the radiation test fail. So, recommending to USE a solid ground plane will make much more sense than to recommend the opposite! The fact that you were willing to trade creepage distance for ground plane suggests you're not understanding the reasons behind a lot of the suggestions given. Prahlad told us, that he is a beginner and wants to learn from us. So, your statement wasn't very nice... If you are unsure of your design, pay a consultant to review it for you - the money will be well spent. But I hope you allow us to have some discussion here? Russell, this is a discussion forum, where we discuss about certain issues. The idea of a discussion forum is to create a platform where people can learn, share experience, give and also recieve help. This is not a place, where ready solutions are offered. And this should not be a place, where a beginner asking for help is recommended to ask a professional for doing the job... Kai |
