#83281 - Modbus Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I'd second the use of Modbus - I use this almost exclusively. Very simple to implement. Modbus ascii is easier from the PC side of things - I've had a lot of trouble with modbus rtu drivers on PCs so much that I use ethernet to modbus converter boxes.
See www.modbus.org I've found RS485 to be very reliable over large distances (~1000m) at 19200 baud. It's really just a matter of following the rules and success is virtually guaranteed. You can squeeze modbus (rtu or ascii) with some extra logic into a 89c2051 comfortably in assembler, allow about 5k if you use 'c' - recommended. External ram helps - especially if you have a lot of registers (modbus views the world as bits and 16 bit registers). |
