#84177 - failed links
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Ten devices are easy to isolate, 40 becomes laborious, so rather than pile as many devices onto the one bus, split it up and use a rs485 hub (or design your master to have many drivers)”
If you look at my "schematic" http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=84111 you will see that every node has two plugs, one to be used for "in" one to be used for "out". Either can be used for either purpose. With that setup it is extremely easy to find failed nodes, simply disconnect in the middle if ok, go 3/4, if not go 1/4 ..... . The design was not conceived as a debugging means, it was conceived to make stubs nonexistent for max speed, the debug advntage is a nice side effect.
Anyhow, now that we have the "industrial strength" 485 drivers http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=82525 , the likelyhood of nodes failing is greatly reduced (I have had no failures using those). They are even quarter load allowing 128 devices on the bus.
