While it is, indeed, imminently possible to use a 'hub' with RD485, that is not the normal practice. If you, for whatever reason, have to use a star topology, you will need a transciever for each and every 'ray'. You can, with proper protocol, connect all these transcievers in parallel to the masters Rx and Tx.
