Well, for receive-only, it looks like it ought to work.
It all depends on whether "looks like" and "ought" are good enough for you. Are you prepared to take the risk? If you really want to know, you must read the specs and see what they require of a receiver (input impedance, fault conditions, etc). You will also need to read the transistor & processor data sheets, and do the calculations to see that all specs are met for the whole manufacturing spread under all conditions - or, just use a MAX232 (or equivalent). I have a little "receive-only" gadget that doesn't use a "proper" receiver - and, sure enough, there have been occasions where it has not worked! |
