I would hesitate to make any changes. I understand, and agree with, the rules as they exist. But I also recognize that there is no more harm to the forum archives via SMS than through bad English/spelling. As it is, new people use SMS inadvertantly, and are soundly chastised for having done so. Those who stick around to become part of the community do not continue to use the SMS and the purpose of the rule is upheld.

As for a -1 score for SMS, I suppose if enough people want to. But I must say I've not run across anyone who deserved a -1 score, especially a newbie, that there wasn't plenty else to score them on. Frankly, I would be hesitant to dock someone a point if SMS were the only infraction they'd committed. I'd be more inclined to answer their question and include a paragraph on the use of SMS. I suspect that a -1 SMS score will just be a means of "piling on."
