I must admit until yesterday, I would have a lot of sympathy with that view, but in view of things received yesterday, this latest row has kicked off because a member was deeply, morally offended by a flippant message here IN SMS, to his great distress, which he has misinterpreted as an extremely offensive comment to him personnally. Since the message was not actually offensive at all when viewed with the correct linguistic SMS goggles on, it amply illustrates why we shouldn't tolerate it.

I agree, that perhaps we shouldn't jump in with steel-capped boots, but we shouldn't allow SMS to flourish here.

I have to say too, that I haven't ever had to work on Erik's messages !
