The datasheet tells you the conditions under which the chip is guaranteed to operate as described.
At anything outside those conditions, you have NO guarantee whatsoever - the chip could do absolutely anything: It need not be predictable; It need not be repeatable; It need to even be sensible! Probably the worst thing the chip could do would be to appear to work. It could appear to work for a long time. It could appear to work while you do loads of tests. Then, one day, when it's really important and you have no test equipment, it will just not work. And you will have no comeback whatsoever - it will all be entirely your own fault for operating the chip outside its defined parameters. Is it worth the risk...? |
