#145558 - 8051 nuts and bolts?
Hi, everybody!
I've been curious about the 8051 for a while. I've finally got some time to dive in, I think. Learning embedded stuff seems like an equitable payoff for the time it takes to learn it.
The 8051 kind of reminds me of the Atari 130XE I grew up with; the hardware mapped to memory. I've got at least two questions to start with, and I haven't been able to find the answers yet:

1) What happens when the thing is powered up? Can we assume that it starts at memory address 00h and just moves through the addresses, or does it default somewhere else? It doesn't have any kind of "BIOS"-like system, does it?

2) How is it programmed? I mean what sequence of signals go into which of the actual chip's pins to write to the memory locations on the chip?

--is there a book that gets into this level without costing a kidney?
