There is a lot of troubles with these [AT89Sxx] (we spent gigabytes of bandwidth discussing them and nowhere is the end) and I don't recommend it as the first step. Erik Malund said:
wrapped in pink cotton and 'politically correct' but why not state it clearly
STAY AWAY FROM ATMEL Erik, do I really give up adherence to facts for sake of political correctness (no provocation, a true question)? No, this is not what I wanted to say and it would be really misleading. First, I did dis-recommend (what's the proper expression for this?) specifically the AT89Sxx (and, quietly, the antique AT89C5x with no suffix). The AT89C51RD2 and family (basically, the Temic stuff) is highly recommended. Second, the group which I don't recommend for a newbie because of cumbersome programming, contains the P89LPC9xx. And, I would never say, stay away from Philips/NXP, as the recommended group does contain the P89V51RD2 family. JW |
