ISP just means that the chip is "In-System Programmable", i.e. you don't have to place it in a programmer to program it.
How exactly ISP works (protocol, interface, etc) is up to the manufacturer. ISP that uses an UART is most convenient, since it allows for the most direct (only a level converter required) connection to a PC. |
