2nd Method 0 is ON 1 is OFF - the simple off at reset.

3rd method, a one to port turns on the LED, reset leaves the lights ON.

I also like base resistors to limit current to the base drive.

In 2.) You want PNP transistor, Emitter to the + supply , base (via resistor) to the port, collector to the LED anode, resistor from the cathode to the 0V rail. Otherwise the Base-emitter sees the drop across the load as well, and you haven't got the voltage swing on the input to saturate the transistor.
