So far all of these fancy schematic have one flaw. They pull their current from the regulated power supply. LED's should get their current source from the unregulated part of the power supply. This will prevent the regulator from being stressed unnecessarily. Most 5 V (7805 typical) devices only have about 1 amp of regulation and LED's are current hogs. It doesn't take to much to start to hit the upper limit on 1 amp regulations. You also save on heat dissipation. Since the current is not regulated there is no need to provide heat sinking.
