The latest generation of parts like the Philips and Atmel 89XX parts only need a serial port, they don't need any programmers. People still think they have to work hard to use the 8052, from the days when it was mask programmed or used external EPROMs

The Cygnal parts blow any PIC out of the water, especially with their JTAG programming and ICE ports. Facilities like this are why pro users stick with the 8052 once they find it.
