for instance , the atmel 89c51cc01 is £14.00 ($23.00) from Farnell/Newark

But the P87LPC76x series is available from Franell at sane prices (the P87LPC764 costs about $3 for instance), so the LPC9xx series may also be sold at reasonable prices. But noone will know untill the next Farnell catalogue comes out in a year...
