Yes Mike, after reading through various others and your post, finally decided to go the way Kai had suggested.

I am happy with 1MM resolution and so run an Excel application to do the inside out buisness and at 1MM intervals. Having got this I shall plug the values into a look up table and the MCU will gladly look it up for me. Flash space is no problem in this case.
