The site I linked to for the picture of the compact flash card seems to have taken the picture away. Alas the dynamic nature of the internet.

I agree, It seems to me that a compact FLASH card would be an excellent choice for your project. It is very easy to connect them to an 8051. Plus I have some code in Keil C that you can have for talking to the compact flash card. This coce would be directy applicable if you interfaced the CF card to the exernal data memory space and mapped the 8 ports of the CF interface to 0xFFF0 to 0XFFF7.
