Has the real point of this thread been lost with references to compact flash ? This is fine for slow longer term storage, but not for use as buffer memory, which is what most players require, the use of SIMM modules would allow for large inexpensive buffers to be implemented.

I think that it would be very usefull if there was a reference design that we could refer to with regards to driving these with the 8051, a cpld would be wonderful.
