Do you really need a silkscreen and/or soldermask on a one-up prototype?
Yes, you do. If I disclosed where some of my prototypes with cuts and wires are currently installed some people would be upset. OK, at this company we steadfastly go out an replace a prototype if installed at a customer - unless the prototype is identical to the produced unit which IS the case for the last prototype. so 1) if the prototype is good, it is production 2) often there is no prototype, just one device is produced for a special purpose. Thus Silkscreens and soldermasks are required. Now, the amateur that build his own MIDI processor may not care that the board slowly oxidizes. Erik |
