If the ALE clock was in the range of the HCTL, then use it.
Then no separate driver circuits needed and no influence on the XTAL oscillator can occur. The XTAL output pin has an internal resistor in series to limit the XTAL power consumption. Thus the ALE pin can drive a load many times stronger. I assume the exact value plays no role. So dividing XTAL by 12 on a MOVX instruction was irrelevant. I use the ALE clock for CPLDs in many designs. The only thing, please watch, that you not set the ALE disable bit. Peter |
