After reading Erik's explanation of boundry line oscillations when the motor stops, I have gave up the idea of connecting encoder direcly to the microcontroller and as per Erik's kind suggestion I have now decided to use Agilent HCTL-2020 encoder interface IC's. Erik's suggestion was only true on using external interrupts, which can cause, that the CPU was interupted to often. But it is not true on my solution with the timer interrupt. I use it in our products with stepper motors for positioning with 5µm accuracy. The AT89C51CC01 control two optical encoders (X, Y) simultaneous. The sampling rate was about 40kHz. On verbose tests over many days without recalibration on the end switch no accuracy was lost. Peter |
