#91613 - Natsemi appnote or CORDIC
Responding to: ???'s previous message
While I haven't tried this solution, I think it could work:

- take the logarithm, base 2. Look for an appnote in Natsemi for their COP8 uCs where is explained how to do it easily
- add the result
- take the antilogarithm (base 2) of the previous result. Maybe the appnote has some hint about this.

Another way: square it by using the appropriate CORDIC algorithm. I studied it years ago and I can assure you it can be done, but don't remember the way it worked. All I can tell you is a table driven algorithm, used in (at least) all old HP calculators and in the Cyrix coprocessors for PCs in the 90's.

Regards,
Enrique.
