#91933 - 8 bit , 16 bit 32 bit 8051 - A thought
This idea just struck me & I am putting this idea on forum for a thought

As we know that 8051 is launched somewhere in eighties and still dominating MCU world this every day new variants coming to market. It is because of its excellent archiitec & vast amount of developement tools & application source code , knowledge base created by developer. But at the same time we are seeing that in case of more complex design we are strechting the limits of 51 MCU & some time developer has to opt for 16/32 bit MCU out of compulsion. All 51 developer like to continue with 51 architect if resource cruch is not faced.

Lot of 16/32 bit with comparable prices are coming to market and new design require use of 16/32 power. So with only sticking to 8 bit it will difficult for 51 baston to hold on the ground

FOr this purpose a alternative is 16/32 bit 51 series architect based MCU will be binary & instruction set compitable with 8 bit variant. In this all the existing 51 development tools , binary code, knowledge base , software library can be used.
But this 16/32 variants will have same or extended instruction set for 16 bit / 32 bit data length.
People can easily switch over tothese 16/32 variants and port 8 bit design also without much effort. 51 designer will have 16/32 bit power without much effort.

Good example of this is 8086 , 80286 , 80386 , 80486 , Pentium family.

Just give it a thought
