#91966 - Only slightly overhyped
Responding to: ???'s previous message

Sure, if you use a F120 and SILabs pull the plug, you are screwed

Not completely screwed.

Only the parts that are 100% specific to the SiLabs part are screwed - and that is all to do with peripherals, pinouts, and specific SFR locations.

But the tools and the basic 8051 instruction set remain vendor-independent!

If you have sensibly structured your software, it should be easy to isolate these vendor-specifics and re-target them to an alternate supplier.

I speak from experience here - following the demise of Triscend, 98% of my experience is still valid for other 8051 derivatives!
