Well, I'm not a muslim. But I seem to have to make some fair judgements now.
It does mean peace dear Joseph, at least theoretically and not just as the meaning of the word. It's 'them' who cheated the Britons who spread these words/thoughts around the world to link Terrorism to Islam for Christians and link Hereticism to US for Muslims. Beware, I'm warning you my friend and ALL the world from this soapbox of mine;) that this is 'their' will to cheat Muslims and Christins against each other to the 3rd one. We be very carefull in our judgements. We gotta b=have a very wide viewpoint to be able to judge the whole thing that is happening. Look I don't give a darn for Islam/Christianity or whatever, I just want to be fair in judgement.

Muhammad's Califs or the Shia 'derivatives' Imams even the early ones do not represent him and his mission. They were all basically greedy people ambushed for Muhammad's hetitage. Both the sunni derivateivs and the shia ones with additional serial port.
You know Jo, It's a very delicate subjects, I feel even this very small deep inside some site conversation contributes to the WWIIV. We need to be very carefull and fair in our judgements on Islam, As I said I'm not a Muslim, not a believer at all if you will and am not defending Islam. Having done my best in criticizing Islam and pinpointing it's funny-bugs which is a long interesting comic story, I concluded that it's quite easy and even full of fun to sit beck and talk these talks, but now these thoughts if not carefully shielded against radiated noise can be dangerous to peoples lives. 50 in London, and more on 9/11 then guess what 25,000 iraqi civilians and dunno thousand US soldiers lots of Afghans... Again I don't give a darn for Londoners, Afghans, Iraqis,... I mean I'm not defending any particular nation/faith. All I need say is beware of a 3rd one based on quick unfair narrowminded judgements. It's a very delicate subject. It's not the right time for blame game my friend.
