I prorammed a AT89C52 with the monitor program and couldn't get the board to start up. After some messing around, I found I had to remove the '125 chip to get the board going. You should be able to accomplish the same thing by jumpering JP4 to the "No" position which disables the Dallas ISP operation (which is what the 125 is for). Completely removing the 125 accomplishes the same thing. This has me going with most of the features.
