It took about 2 1/2 hours assembly time for me. I'm short the '126 (backordered at digikey) and since my programmer doesn't support the AT89S8253 I'm kinda stuck with using a different chip for now. Ouch. You might try Radio Shack; I believe they carry the HC126 in Radio Shacks here in Mexico so I'd assume they'd have it there. No problems on the assembly. I would however suggest to put the resistors on first. I agree. Or the approach I used is to do the power connector, rectifying diodes, power capacitors, 7805, power LED, and associated resistor R1 first and test that--power LED should come on when power is applied. Thereafter, I just go left to right starting with the DBx connectors and move right from there. Craig, you might want to optionally put the dual row headers on the parts list as those sips suck in two's. I agree. They're listed as SIPs because last time I checked I couldn't find any DIP headers that weren't "special order, value-added items" from Digikey. If you find a part number at Digikey for a decent in-stock 36x2 DIP header, let me know. For those that ordered kits I sent a single SIP and a single DIP for just that reason--the DIPs I acquired locally, not through Digikey. A power switch would be a nice addition as well as some mounting holes to hold it to a nice base. Do other SBCs have power switches? The ones I have used haven't, thus I went with the same approach. I agree it could be useful though. There doesn't seem to be any specific place to put the rubber feet near the corners. That's definitely true, and I apologize for that. I recommend approximately under C13, just south of JP5, just northeast of C7, and the last one does fit nicely under the upper-right hand corner. Not as clean as might be desired, but it gets the job done. Regards, Craig Steiner |
