#99084 - Why?
Responding to: ???'s previous message

Will the future update resolve the Windows/IDE interface problem where the code window text remains all green and mouse scrolling does not work? Had this problem ever since I moved beyond Win98.

So why did you downgrade from Win98 to Win2K or XP? :)

Seriously, yes, the problem will be resolved before too long. Pinnacle development has taken a back seat to other projects but that's about to change.

By the way, although the context-sensitive coloring doesn't work on W2K/XP, you can change the color of the text that you do see. You don 't need to be stuck with green--just go to Options/IDE Options to change the text color.

Will this entail a major change which will require a new registration? If so will it be at new registration price or a portion of it?

No, there will not be any re-registration or upgrade for the next two versions. The Pinnacle development plans are:

1. Add the ability to simulate the SBC fully to current version of Pinnacle (the SPI serial EEPROM and the memory-mapped LCD and keypad). This will be a minor release with no upgrade cost and your existing registration will work.

2. Update the program as a 32-bit Windows application. This will fix the scrollbars/text coloring problem, give long filename support, and basically give a more modern look and feel. This will be a minor upgrade, no cost.

3. Pinnacle 52 will then be updated to include a 'C' compiler and additional features in the IDE and in regards to the MCUs that it specifically simulates. This will be a major release and there will be some upgrade cost for those that wish to upgrade to it. Not sure how much but the upgrade fee will be significantly less than what you paid for it.

Craig Steiner
