Yes, you are right - my oversight; However for useability with newer chips would a socketed PLCC44 not be better? If the 2 layers is the problem, these sockets do come in a version with a 0.1" pin separation on the solder side. If not, the AT.. and P89c51Rx2 do come with extra RAM albeit only up to 1k. The verification of those being ISPable (argh.. bad word) would be good. Verifying this would also allow the fancier Atmel chips such as ED2

I guess it is my choice of words. For polarity read reset high or reset low. today youy have to studu=y the datasheet for each and every derivative you use to make sure you have the right reset "polarity" (reset ot !reset)
