Don't talk rot! Why you think, that no other people can read data sheets and use its brain ??? If I found things useful for my task, than I use it also. There is absolute no influence, if other peoples already used it in the past or not ! Otherwise no new programs can be written, if a programmer would only look backward ! I have always more fun, if I use things, which are used little or never in the past. The real reason people don't use Mode-0 very often today is that most modern derivates contain a dedicated SPI and thus the UART still can be used as UART. Furthermore often no SPI was needed at all.
