#125275 - "real-world" or "old-world"? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I find it VERY inconvenient to drive real-world circuitry from devices that are not 5-volt capable and can't drive at least 6 mA on those outputs
"real-world" or "old-world"? I freely admit that my transition from 5V to 3V3 involved dragging, kicking and screaming. Every argumnt I hear about "stay with 5V" has been made by me in the past. The reality, however, is that once you have made the transition, things get real comfy e.g. if you want to connect a FPGA, then the availability in 3V3 is ENORMOUS comapared to the availability in 5V. Yes, I use level converters and such to connect to SOME other things, but is driving a relay from a 3V3 pin any different from driving it from a 5V pin, hardly; the interface is the same (save maybe a resistor value). The fact is that if you want to use current technology, you are more or less (and every day more) forced to embrace lower voltages. Erik |
