The Busy signal's duration is directly dependent on the input signal level, see the timing diagram in the 7135 datasheet. The same hold true for ICL7109, though the signal name is Status. So you can easily use just these few signals(Clock, Busy, Pol,Run/-Hold, OR and UR) for a simpler interface, with added bonus that optoisolation is easier( lesser number of optos).
