I wouldn't think it advisable to put anything in the ground path of the max232. Careful placement of the bypass caps and pcb routing should limit the currents to that area. Decoupling the supply via a RC or LC filter may resolve the issue you're concerned with, although the noise generated by the micro would be significant also. So what is the big picture? Why is the max232 switching noise a problem?
