In my opinion the best choice will be some USB-232 converters or an internal card PCI-8*232.

However if we want an 52 solution i still thinking that hard uart is strongly recomended. Yes the bottle neck is in the PC-52 serial link. But may be we can asume some peaks thanks to fifos buffers.
