First off a copyright, once declared, is good for something like 99 years or the life of the originator One should be careful in this international community. In the UK copyright exists AUTOMATICALLY on anything one writes. I do not have to declare it to anyone. Also copyright expires some period AFTER the death of the author, not on the death of the author. It used to be 25 years, then 50, and I believe we are aiming for 75 plus to protect Walt Disney's needy relatives. So, your mileage may vary. Personally, I don't steal code or applications, DVDs or music tracks. It is part of my moral code, appreciating the difficulties of creating anything, not to steal the works of others. I do use GPL applications, and I am releasing some astronomical software control apps under GPL. Steve |
