One day, company X stops selling the OS. Your company would happily pay 10 times what they have been paying for each copy, but company X couldn't give a ****. They refuse to sell any more copies.
Redevelopment of the software is the only option, but it was all written years ago by 'clever' programmers who are long gone. Redevelopment is the only option but the time required will kill the company. What would you do then? Company Y stop making a chip you use What would you do then?
