you can't build my hardware
There's the crux. If I made hardware "you" could not build anyone and his brother could have a copy of my software if it would be of no use to someone making similar hardware. Now, however I have some algorithms that make my SW fly compared to some competitors and "open source" would make that useful to competitors regardless of the hardware they use. So, if open source does not hurt you, I love it, but whether it hurt you or not is the decision by the copyright owner, not by anyone else. Erik PS how do you make hardware that "you can't build" and how can you avoid some usefulness of your software by someone making similar HW. |
