#96049 - neither have I Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I have never heard of a "Hack" keeping his job becuase the boss was afraid no one could maintain known bad code.
neither have I heard of any such case. In fact I have (and have heard of) fired hacks eventhough (in one case) it took man years to recreate the code in a useable form. The aforementioned case was a hack "doing his thing" before I entered the scene, his previous supervisor had no idea what he was doing so the hack did not hold his job because of "supervisor fear" but because of "supervisor ignorance". I have held several jobs and consults with one purpose only : To make something maintainable. All such have been succeeding a hack that was fired because of non-maintainabilty of his code. One case "please add one more decimal" answer "will take 6 months" result guy fired and a recode initiated since the 6 months probably were optimistic. Erik |
