NOPE, if he can not "gain access" to the correct parts, the last thing he should set out to do will be "build his own programmer". The average post list for those threads dealing with building kitchen table programmers without access to the correct parts is about 100 ending with "I give up". You're quite right ,personally i was the one who was unable to program AT89Sxx chips and leaved working with them for about a year till i found a working programmer on the net. I didn't liked to go and buy a ready made programmer ,even if it was cheap . it seems some sort of reinventing the wheel but i could live with that , i just was using my old AT89Cxx programmer in those times. Now i have some experiences why Atmel ISP programming wasn't worked for me and i want to help others and be the one who i was 'seeking for help' in those days that i was dealing with the Atmel ISP programming of AT89Sxx chips. of course if the OP sees that the process doesn't meet his time or demands he could go on and buy a readymade programmer.IMHO the reason that somebody comes across a message board and asks for help is that he wants to know why his prototype isn't working.
