What's presented on this site is quite incomplete. It's quite simple ... receivers only need the local Vcc. It's the transmitters that require the bipolar supply. A simple two-transistor (diff-amp) comparator, or anything similar, that tolerates below-GND voltage inputs, will establish whether the input is greater than 3 volts. It's a digital system, so one can assume when it's not greater than 3 volts, it's less than -3 volts if it's not broken in some way. The rest is timing, which, at RS232-compatible rates, is not very demanding. RE |
