The Cypress release of their VHDL was probably about the first complete VHDL tool set, though it was never intended nor was it equipped for FPGA use. For its time it was adequate not only for their CPLD's, but also for SPLD's, e.g. 22V10, etc, which made it easy to use for elementary exercises.
The book is, indeed, terribly out of date for VHDL, BUT it does describe those architectural items which persist despite over a decade of progress. It's the only book I've encountered which gives a more or less even-handed treatment of FPGA's. This, as I mentioned, is because Cypress didn't offer FPGA's. RE |
