That does not hold for large FPGAs. I use a Virtex 4 part in a 1148 pin BGA and a -12 speed grade. The LX40 version costs around $400 for about 3.3 million gates while the LX160 costs around $2,800 for about 12 million gates. I am scared to find out how much the LX200 costs.
