#122670 - depends on where you get pricing Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Avnet quoted $1160 each at q10K for a part a fellow I knew who was working for someone else was buying for $4.50 each in q100. You can't depend on distributors for pricing. You can't depend on 'em for delivery either.
Based on Avnet's price, we found it cheaper to have LSI Logic build an ASIC and pay the up-front fees, foundry charges, licenses, etc. than to use the XILINX part. The ASIC cost $0.51 at q10K once the NRE was covered. It took 2 years to recover that, but, what the hey? It's all behind us now. Time was when a 10K-gate Spartan cost about $10 in handfuls. Now, the smallest Spartan-3E costs much less per gate, though you have to allow for marketing's inflation of the gate count. RE |
