read the monitor from the chip with a programmer, look though the buffer for some ASCII string that may identify it. Then you could get some documentation.

Another idea... compare the hex dump to other hex files of other monitors to see if you can find a match.

PS. I think it's pretty bad that the teacher didn't document what monitor he was using for the class.
