Richard Erlacher said: there's really nothing "better" about the modern ISP-capable FLASH-based parts for most applications that use little or no I/O 1) what does ISP have to do with amount of I/O. That is not an ISP issue that is an internal memory issue. Perhaps you've overlooked your previous argument, that external memory consumes two ports. absolutely not, it STILL has absolutely nothing to do with ISP. 2) with an ISP chip you do not end up destroying your chip by continous removal and insertin. You might remove and reinsert socketed memory components, but not the "chip." is a "socketed memory component" not a chip? what difference does it make which 'component' you might destroy. 3) with ISP you do not need to buy a programmer of go through the frustration of (trying to) bild one on the kitchen table. I believe the last 1000 posts regarding ISP and IAP problems with and commercially available and home-built adapters will contradict that notion. Absolutely NOT. you should know that when I refer to ISP I do not refer to the crappy Atmel so called ISP via SPI. Erik What the O/P apparently wanted to do is to download code into his 8032's memory, dual mapped into both code and data space, as was common practice with 8032 boards. He's got a problem, probably having nothing at all to do with the 8032, but, more likley with his PC. He probably doesn't understand how to use his PC serial port to satisfy the requirements of his on-board firmware, hence, can't get the 8032 to communicate with his PC properly. The fact that he can't do that, in fact, may indicate that he doesn't know what those requirements are. The fact that he hasn't described his on-board hardware to any extent at all may, in fact, indicate that he hasn't a clue what it is or what it does. A few probing questions to the O/P about what his hardware looks like might be a lot more helpful than a lot of suggestions about what to buy, however, "kewl" those suggestions may be. After all, he wants to use what's already "bought and paid-for." Let's not drive this thread any further off-topic than has already been done. RE |
