#79220 - RE: IOT: France to allow cell phone jammers Responding to: ???'s previous message |
This is not a question of outlawing rudeness. What was outlawed was the intentional interfering with cell phone signals, even on a localized basis. What we have now is the removal of that restriction in some cases. As an aside note, I wonder why no one is claiming that one can't outlaw interfering with cell phone signals since it is so easy to do and there will always be someone who will.
And, for the record, if I build a theater with a well grounded wire mesh embedded into the floor, walls and ceiling (a faraday cage), then I can most certainly stop the rude fellow from disrupting the show for all of my other patrons with his cell phone. If the signal is 2E9 Hz, and the speed of light is 3E8 m/s, then the wavelength of the signal is (3/2)E-1 m or 150 mm. So a wire mesh with something on the order of a 1 mm mesh will summarily block all cell phone signals. The rude fellow may find some other way to disturb my patrons, but he won't do it by using a cell phone (at least not as it is intended to be used ;) ). And I will have succinctly stopped him without the aid and/or benefit of any legislative action. Now, once again, the question is how many ideas can we come up with to accomodate emergency calls? And, since this is a forum about '51 derivatives, how would one utilize the '51 to accomplish this? |
