Well, I think I'll use a ADM 208/MAX208 ESD protected RS 232 interface, a few inputs with optoisolators - both A and K connected to the service connector trough resistors, a few "power outs" from a ULN 2803,clamped to Vcc trough a 1N400X and some unregulated power, feed trough a (power) resistor and a 1N400X.
