Hi Michael, and thankx verry munch for the detailed reply.
My PSU is a small transformer - 4-5 VA - a bridge, a cap and a small Motorola switcher. The unregulated voltage is about 12V DC, and thats what I'll be feeding out of the connector. The transformer secondary must of course be protected against destruction by some sort of fuse. And my initial thought was to protect the PSU against things from the nasty outside world by the diode and resistor. It's true, that if some idiot shorts the suply, then the device is "dead" - at least until the short is removed and maybe the fuse is replaced. Is that a fault? I dont think so, but its to the coustermers inconvinience, so maybe it is fault anyhow. The resistor came in to play as a low cost protection device. As far as I know, poly fuses is quite expensive.
